FIATA: (The International Federation of Freight Forwarders Association) was established on 31 may 1926 in Vienna as a non governmental organization focusing on uniform documents and procedures and coordination in the profession. This organization covers around 40,000 forwarders encompassing about 10,000 employees in 150 countries around the world. It also has as cooperation with and renders consultancy to such well known organizations as EOSOC, ECE, ESCAP, ESCWA, UNCTAD and UNCITRAL. FIATA is one of the reputed world organizations involved in transport sector and is recognized by both public and private entities like ICC, IATA, UIC, IRU, WCO, and WTO.
Membership in FIATA, ITCA: the international transport companies association of Iran, became a FIATA member in 1973 and has remained one ever since. ITCA has enjoyed as FIATA`s agency, the right of publishing and distributing the most widely used FBL or FIATA multimodal transport bill of lading.
ITCA`s training center: In 1998, ITCA, under the leadership of its board of directors and activities of the director of the training section, aiming at upgrading the level of Iranian Freight forwarders, professional knowledge and with a good deal of planning managed to obtain FIATA`s authorization and set up the pertaining training program.
The training section tasked with the running of such a program was then changed into a center approved by the general assembly of the association, in 1998.
The center has so far succeeded to hold and run four round of FIATA training programs yielding a crop of around 300 graduates. The 5th round is also on the way with 150 participants. The graduates of FIATA training programs receive a diploma issued in Switzerland by FIATA, which not only is a proof of prfessional competency of the recipients but has international credit.
Training in Afghanistan: Having gained success in Iran, ITCA`s training center was recommended by FIATA to UNCTAD to assist in setting up a “Train the trainers course in Afghanistan. This was undertaken and achieved with cooperation of the head of Afghan`s desk in ITCA as well as directors of Afghan`s freight forwarders association and exertion of the director of ITCA`s training center, for which UNCTAD expressed its gratitude and appreciation. Currently Afghans are benefitting from the above mentioned trainings. Afghan`s association of freight forwarders is still in collaboration with ITCA to promote its training programs and have managed to sign up a memorandum of understanding with ITCA.
Establishing of graduates` society : Simultaneous with graduation of the fourth classes of FIATA students in 2008, a group of graduates of the previous FIATA classes decided to form and get together in a socio-cultural society. This society which is a non political formation will pursue its objectives in line with ITCA`s training center to strengthen and promote the foundations of professional training in transport sector as well as to ensure continuation of FIATA training program.
No need to say that integrity and flourishing of the FIATA graduates society depends on membership of all the graduates and their devotion to its goals.
